Working with the Dynamics 365 Business Central Company Hub

Recently, as part of Dynamics 365 Business Central’s 2020 Release Wave 2, Microsoft introduced the company hub to Dynamics 365 Business Central. The Company Hub is designed to help users that work within multiple company environments in Business Central by giving them a central location from which they can easily access data across the different environments of each company or region. The company hub is accessed by selecting the Company Hub role in settings. It can also be set to open directly.

Benefits of using the Company Hub

After switching to the Company Hub role, the home page will display a list of the environments available with links to open each. The dashboard can be further customized to pull in key data points from these companies to give an easy view of data like open documents or invoices due. Business Central’s task manager allows for tasks to be assigned to users, and these tasks can display per environment on the company hub page. The new My User Tasks list highlights the important information of each task and helps plan time for each one. This list can also be sorted by a variety of different data types and filters. By selecting a task item, Business Central will open the relevant page for completing the task.

Multi-environment users benefit from using company hub by having a centralized location to plan their work. Users such as external accountants can customize their dashboard to display outstanding balances, sales documents, taxes, and more for each environment. By setting up and sorting tasks by priority or timeframe, work days can be better planned for better time management and efficiency.

Providing access to additional companies

The different environments available to each user normally show up automatically in the company hub, but can also be manually entered by opening the Setup menu and accessing the Environment Links page. These environment links are what connect the various environments in Business Central that the user works within. If an environment appears to be missing from the list, there is a Reload all companies option that will refresh. This option can also be used to update data from each company.

The company hub in Dynamics 365 Business Central gives multi-company users an advanced home page to monitor tasks and data from each company.
