Learning Business Central with Copilot
If you’ve ever had to learn a new software system, you know how helpful it is to have an expert to bring your questions to. That’s not always possible, however. If you’ve been in a position where you’re learning new software on your own, you’ve likely had the ability to use the internet to locate answers to your questions.
In the case of learning to use Microsoft’s Business Central application, you can utilize Microsoft Learn, Microsoft documentation, and the guided tours and tool tips provided in Business Central to expand your knowledge. To even further simplify and streamline the learning process, Copilot now has the ability to deliver specific information directly to you, guide you through processes step-by-step, and even provide data analyses to help you understand and utilize your data. Whether you’re brand new to Business Central or wanting to expand your existing skills, Copilot can bring you up to speed.
Traditional methods of learning in Business Central
There are many effective ways to gain skills as a Business Central user. Through the internet, you can access video tutorials, virtual classes, workshops, and read through pretty much everything there is to know about Business Central. Each of these options requires a little bit of extra work from the learners to search for and locate information. While this is a great way to learn, it does take some extra time to switch between windows, sift through search results and locate the specific information that you are looking for. The most helpful learning features in Business Central that are independent of Copilot are the teaching tips, in-app tours, and ToolTips.
Teaching tips – Teaching tips explain Business Central logic relevant to whichever page you are on. You can enable and disable teaching tips from your settings menu. Once you have dismissed a teaching tip, you can reopen it by hovering over the page title if needed. Beyond explaining features, teaching tips can indicate appropriate timing for when a particular field or action should be used.
Navigate to your settings to toggle the switch to turn on Teaching Tips.
In-app tours – Tours are a sequence of teaching tips that guide the user around the page, describing functionality as they go. Tours are turned on if you have teaching tips turned on and can be initiated from any teaching tip They demonstrate where to locate features, describe what they are, and explain what you can do with them. While a tour is initiated, Business Central will make input fields read-only until the tour is completed.
Teaching tips will appear as you navigate around your page. You can initiate a tour from any teaching tip.
ToolTips – If you’re unsure what a particular field means in Business Central, simply hover your mouse over the field for a ToolTip. The ToolTip will appear with a brief description of the field that you have selected. If the field explanation doesn’t effectively help you understand the field, you can click “Ask Copilot” in the lower right corner of the ToolTip window. Copilot learning tools to boost user adoption and ease of use
It can take a lot of time to scour the web and locate the information that you’re looking for, especially if you have to spend additional time assessing the validity of the information you’re looking at. As your virtual assistant, Copilot does the digging for you. Its skills don’t stop at helping you search, though. Copilot’s capabilities stretch beyond answering questions and providing documentation. Copilot can also walk you through various processes, analyze data, and even provide data-based recommendations to you.
Easy access to Microsoft documentation – Microsoft documentation is comprehensive and expansive. The information that you need to find is surely included somewhere within it, but wouldn’t it be nice not to have to dig through search results to find the answers to your specific questions? Copilot allows you to forgo all the hassle of toggling between screens and scouring the web by serving up answers to any Business Central-related questions that you might have by providing relevant Microsoft documentation right in your Business Central window.

Chat with Copilot – Opening the Copilot Chat pane from any page in Business Central allows you to ask for step-by-step instructions and help in real time. Whether you want to know how to create an invoice, manage inventory, or set up financial dimensions, Copilot can guide you through any Business Central Process, step-by-step. Type in the pane as though you are talking to a support assistant, and Copilot will respond with clear, comprehensive answers.
Chat with Copilot allows you to get instant answers to any Business Central related questions.
Ask Copilot on ToolTips – As we mentioned earlier in this blog, ToolTips will appear if you hover your mouse over a field, providing a brief explanation of that field. If the explanation provided in the ToolTip doesn’t provide enough information for you to fully understand the field, Copilot will step in and assist you. Just click the “Ask Copilot” button on the bottom of the ToolTip and the Chat with Copilot window will open with an expanded description of the field that you were inquiring about.
