Microsoft Teams no longer supports Internet Explorer 11
Back in August, Microsoft announced the official end of support for Internet Explorer coming in late 2021. This announcement also included a slew of end-of-support dates for Microsoft 365 application support of Internet Explorer. As of November 30, 2020, Microsoft Teams no longer supports Internet Explorer 11. Other end-of-support dates include:
March 9, 2021 – Microsoft Edge Legacy end of life
August 17, 2021 – Microsoft 365 stops supporting Internet Explorer 11
What does this mean for organizations that still use Internet Explorer for Microsoft Teams web access? Internet Explorer users will not have access to new Microsoft Teams features and start to have a degraded experience or even be unable to connect to Teams. Organizations that rely on teams for external meetings or online events may consider alerting their external users and audiences that Microsoft Teams experience in IE may be degraded moving forward.
Microsoft Teams supports the following browsers:
Microsoft Edge (RS2)
Microsoft Edge (Chromium)
Google Chrome
Safari
Firefox
Joining a Microsoft Teams meeting via a browser that doesn’t support the Teams web app
Most features of the Microsoft Teams web app will work in browsers like Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox. However, some features like sharing video, sharing content, or using a microphone may not work as intended. You can review all browser limitations when using the Microsoft Teams web app here. For organizations that have external users that still use unsupported browsers like Internet Explorer, we recommend sharing this support article on joining a Teams meeting via an unsupported browser. If all else fails, users can join Teams meetings via their mobile device by dialing into the meeting.
